Porcelain veneers are a thin layer of porcelain that's applied to the front surface of the tooth to make cosmetic enhancements in shape color and alignment. The veneer process from the pre-planning through final cementation of a veneer can run from a from a few weeks to a couple of months. Usually, we start off by taking some photographs of the patient. We do a cosmetic mockup out of wax so we can look at it with the patient, make sure we get the shape, the length and everything right.
From there, we make any correction that the patient wanted or any changes that the patient wanted. At that point, we duplicate our temporaries that are in the patient's mouth so we can send that to the lab so they have a really good idea of where we're at with the patient.
From there, the lab is going to fabricate the veneer. We would bring the patient in and at that point it should be as simple as removing the temporaries, placing this new veneer on the tooth, bonding it in place for the patient. We'll bring them back a few days later check and see how their gum tissue is doing, see how they're adjusting to speech, biting and aesthetics. Usually, we're right where the patient wants to be at that endpoint.
