What Is a Smile Makeover?
A smile makeover is a comprehensive treatment plan that combines two or more cosmetic procedures and is ideal for patients who have multiple cosmetic flaws they want to address. Combining procedures can allow our dentists to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing smile possible while keeping treatment costs lower and timelines shorter. You can create a plan tailored to address discoloration and deep stains, gapped or crooked teeth, minor damage such as chips or cracks, and more.
Teeth Whitening & Veneers
One of the most common treatment combinations is teeth whitening and porcelain veneers. Teeth whitening is always on of the first procedures completed, so that we can match the porcelain veneers to the newly whitened shade of your smile. Our experienced team can develop a detailed treatment plan which will outline your estimated treatment timeline. Patients requiring SureSmile will typically start with that treatment. During this time, you may have some procedures completed, but treatments such as porcelain veneers and dental bonding should wait until the completion of your orthodontic treatment.
Your smile makeover will be customized to meet your individual needs. You can create a plan tailored to address discoloration and deep stains, gapped or crooked teeth, minor damage such as chips or cracks, and more.
Do You Meet the Requirements?
Candidacy Factors
Most patients in good oral health looking to transform their smiles make good veneer candidates. Our dentists will examine your teeth and gums to determine your candidacy during your consultation at our Slidell practice. Ideal veneer patients will meet the following requirements.
In Good Oral Health
Oral health is the most important candidacy factor. Tooth decay and gum disease may need to be treated before veneer placement.
No Severe Misalignment
Dental veneers are effective at treating minor misalignment issues. Patients with moderate-to-severe misalignment may need to seek orthodontic treatment before veneers can be placed.
Have Sufficient Enamel
Your teeth must be prepped before your porcelain veneers can be placed. Our dentists will remove a small amount of your natural tooth enamel to make space for the dental veneer. Patients with thin enamel may need to seek alternative treatment or consider our minimal prep veneers.
Ready for a Permanent Change
Veneers are an irreversible cosmetic dentistry treatment. Because a portion of your enamel will need to be removed before placement, you will always need a restoration on a treated tooth. Patients who are not ready to make that kind of commitment can talk with our dentists about alternative options like dental bonding.
Free of Teeth Grinding
While the porcelain used to create your dental veneers is durable, it is not indestructible. Teeth grinding (bruxism) can damage or wear down your new restorations. However, our dentists may be able to fit you with a custom oral appliance so you can still undergo veneer treatment.
