Dentures
Missing most or all of your teeth can make it difficult to eat and speak, impacting your quality of life.
Dentures are prosthetic devices that can restore your oral function and appearance by replacing your missing teeth.
Dr. Michael J. Appleton and Dr. Christopher Braud in Slidell, LA, can craft custom dentures for a beautiful and functional smile.
Implant-Supported Dentures Carry Many Benefits
Bone Health
Implants are the only restorative dentistry procedure that can stop and prevent jawbone loss. When you are missing a tooth, the jaw no longer receives stimulation from the tooth root. Without that stimulation, the bone can begin to deteriorate. Dental implants act as prosthetic tooth roots to provide that stimulation and keep your jaw healthy.
Maximum Stability
Because traditional dentures rest on the gums and rely on adhesives, there is the possibility for them to slip. Implant-supported dentures are different. Dental implants are surgically placed directly into the jawbone, and your dentures are then secured to the implants. There is no risk of them slipping off your gums when you chew or talk.

You Have Sufficient Jawbone
You must have sufficient jawbone to qualify for traditional or implant-supported dentures. If you suffer from existing bone loss, you may qualify for the All-on-4® method, which uses four strategically placed dental implants. However, if your bone loss is severe, you may need bone grafting before you qualify for dentures.
You Are in Good Oral Health
You must be free from gum disease or other oral health concerns, such as tooth decay in remaining teeth. Oak Harbor Family Dentistry offers comprehensive treatment options, including general and restorative dentistry, to improve your oral health before dentures. This ensures a healthy foundation for your new smile.
You Have Multiple Missing Teeth
You must suffer from multiple missing teeth to qualify for dentures. This often means at least three or more consecutive missing teeth. If you only have a few missing teeth, we have other treatment options available to help restore your smile, such as a dental bridge.
